Article 23

French or Hebrew in your campaigns?

Language strategy comes first. This article covers execution: when you advertise in French and Hebrew, how should you structure campaigns, test and decide?

One language, one complete journey

Each language must stay consistent throughout: ad, landing page, form, confirmation message and follow-up call.

Include the language in campaign and ad names (_FR, _HE). Without it, language-level analysis is unreliable.

On Meta: let the creative select the audience

  • Language targeting excludes French speakers using their phones in Hebrew or English. A French creative with broad delivery qualifies its audience more effectively

  • To compare languages, test the same concept and offer. Comparing an established French winner with a new Hebrew creative proves little

  • Hebrew imperatives are gendered: choose plural, neutral wording or separate versions

  • For bicultural families, a Hebrew video with French subtitles is worth testing

On Google: ad language becomes the lever

  • Google identifies the languages a user understands from several signals, including their search language and settings

  • Google announced that from September 2026, campaign-level language settings would be removed for Search campaigns: matching would use the language of the ads themselves. Writing ads in the right language becomes your main language-targeting tool

  • Separate ad groups or campaigns by keyword language to keep performance analysis clear

  • Cover Hebrew spelling variants and transliterated French brand names

Measure by language all the way to the customer

  • Include language in your UTM parameters and a CRM field

  • Compare cost per qualified lead and cost per customer, not just CTR or CPM

  • One language may produce cheaper leads but more expensive customers. Cost per customer decides

  • Wait for enough conversions per version before drawing conclusions

The most common mistakes

  • unreviewed machine translation,

  • the same landing page for both languages,

  • a decision based on the first week’s CPM,

  • a sales follow-up in a different language from the ad
